Maskwa David Alexanderson
Maskwa David Alexanderson is a Cree Indigenous Muslim from Saskatchewan, a public speaker, community advocate, and bridge-builder who has spent nearly two decades serving communities through education, outreach, and dialogue.
He serves as the Community Liaison for the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and Indigenous Engagement Coordinator with Justice For All Canada, where he works to strengthen relationships between Indigenous and Muslim communities and advance meaningful conversations on reconciliation, understanding, and social justice.
A Muslim for more than 18 years, Maskwa has spoken at mosques, Islamic centres, schools, conferences, businesses, and community organizations across Canada. Drawing from both lived experience and Indigenous teachings, he educates audiences on Indigenous history, the legacy of residential schools, reconciliation, and the shared values that connect Indigenous and Muslim communities.
His outreach has directly engaged more than 3,225 individuals, including 716 Indigenous community members, inspiring dialogue, learning, and positive change.
Today, Maskwa shares “From Darkness to Light,” a deeply personal journey from foster care, homelessness, addiction, and adversity to faith, purpose, and service. His story is a testament to resilience, transformation, and the power of hope.
